Championship Flight 2014

Past Championships
Champions:  Matthew Huntington & Eric Drogosh
Runners-up:  Craig Stull & Chris O'Neill
Semi-Finals:  Steve Verduzco & Nicolas Echavarria
Semi-Finals:  Adam Anderson & Tom Werkmeister
Matthew Huntington eagled #18 twice to help win the championship with his partner Eric Drogosch.  Huntington rolled in a 30 foot eagle putt to complete a stunning comeback win in the Sunday morning semi-final match vs Adam Anderson & Tom Werkmeister. Down 3 on the 13th tee to the powerful twosome of Anderson & Werkmeister, Drogosch caught fire with 4 birdies in 5 holes.  After the match, Drogosch welled up with tears as he told viewers across the nation that he was playing for his late stepfather, Keith Barton, whose 76th birthday fell on this day. Craig Stull and University of Michigan golf star Chris O'Neill closed out Steve Verduzco and Mexican Amateur Champion Nicolas Echavarria 4 & 3 in the other semi-final match.  In the afternoon championship final, Craig Stull and Chris O'Neill were in the driver seat on the 17th tee box until Huntington finished birdie-eagle to complete the comeback victory.  Huntington hit two electric shots to within 4 feet of the hole on #18 with hundreds of patrons green side as bright sunshine broke though on what was an otherwise wet and stormy day.  Legendary caddie, Eric Pitcher, was seen dancing across the 18th green with the flag stick as the match reached it's exciting conclusion. It was a tournament of comebacks as the iconic Bert Cooper was admitted to Bronson Hospital after the member-contestant and forced to withdraw with a lung infection.  Against the advice of Doctors, he made a triumphant comeback on Friday night and hit a wedge into the 18th green during family night, much to the delight of his many friends, family and fans.  It was only fitting that the 18th hole would be the final stage for a memorable comeback victory on this 61st annual edition of our great and storied golf tournament.
